Chargers Soccer Club is a non-profit organization dedicated to fostering individual and team excellence through a robust and educational approach to soccer development. Established in 1972, the club operates in Clearwater, Tampa, and Lakewood Ranch, Florida, serving over 3,000 youth players annually. With a legacy of producing more than 60 State, Regional, and National Championships, as well as helping countless athletes reach collegiate and professional levels, the club places an emphasis on community, integrity, and lifelong participation in soccer. The Chargers Soccer Club is a cornerstone of the local soccer community, hosting events that gather tens of thousands of attendees, and providing valuable life lessons through sports.

 

Role Description

This is a full-time on-site role for an MLS Next Director based in Clearwater and Lakewood Ranch, FL. The MLS Next Director will oversee and manage the MLS Next program, including team development, player recruitment, and performance monitoring. Responsibilities will include designing and implementing training plans, mentoring coaches, organizing schedules, and ensuring the alignment of the program with the club’s mission and values. Frequent communication with players, parents, coaches, and other stakeholders is vital, as is maintaining compliance with MLS Next protocols and standards.

 

Qualifications

  • USSF “C” License minimum required; USSF “B” or “A” License preferred (UEFA equivalent accepted). Proven experience in coaching youth soccer at a high level, preferably within an academy structure
  • Strong understanding of player development principles
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and decision-making skills to effectively manage a comprehensive development program and lead a team of coaches and players.
  • Thorough knowledge of soccer development principles, with experience in player development, talent identification, and coaching strategies at advanced levels.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities to engage with players, parents, coaches, and organizational stakeholders effectively.
  • Experience running programs within competitive soccer frameworks; familiarity with MLS Next policies and standards is highly beneficial.
  • A track record of success in overseeing youth soccer development, coaching licenses (e.g., U.S. Soccer or equivalent), and a passion for shaping the future of the game through player progression.
  • Availability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends, as required in the soccer environment.
  • Travel is required – MLS Next team games, tournaments, and events
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States
